Nestled amidst the
tall redwood trees of Aptos California, you will find a small
ranch with a mighty cause. The ranch is home to the Rivers Crest Dragon Slayers.
A
closer look at the ranch will reveal a stately man of light complexion surrounded
with a menagerie of
animals.
This man is Josef Rivers, the founder and guiding force of the Dragon Slayers.
For over thirty years Josef Rivers has been offering his guidance in this unique
program.
As a young boy Josef contracted
Polio. His father's love and wisdom guided him
through his childhood, often reminding him, " Everyone has a dragon to slay,
whether it be physical or psychological, and if not slain will destroy him".
It is on this premise that Josef Rivers created the Dragon slayers, a program
that utilizes the relationship between man and animal to bring about growth and
strength
both physical and mental in the student.
Lessons are offered by Josef on a weekly basis. There is no charge for this
service.
Subsequently the program relies on donations to sustain itself.
 Through working with animals such as Shetland Ponies, Miniature donkeys Zebu
Zebras,
Camels and many types of birds, the students experience unparalleled freedom
and sense
of self discovery.
Animals have the gift of bringing out that which is honorable and ever lasting
within us. At Rivers Crest Dragon slayers this magic is alive each and every
day.
