Camels Available

Camels Available

We are often asked if we have camels available for sale.  From time to time we do.  Although we do not consider ourselves an animal rescue.. we do provide a home and care for many camels in need.  When they are ready, some camels may stay at our Dairy where others may flourish in a different environment.

Different Camels are Suited for Different Homes

Cuddlers

Some camels are very human centric preferring to spend most of their time walking, being brushed and interacting with their humans.    These camels are usually mature adults.  Remember camels have a long lifespan... we have known camels over 40 years old.  If you are looking for a companion camel, a late teen/early twenty something camel can be a calm, gentle addition to your family.

Over Achievers

Over achievers want a job.  They want a routine with consistant expectations and work to look forward to.  This is what camels where bred for.  Walking and working keeps their mind and body healthy.  Trekking as a pack or riding animal or even country fair style hand-led camel rides with a person they trust and look forward to spending the day with is their best life.

shy guys

Shy camels may be adults that have had poor life experiences with humans and prefer to be beautifying your pasture.  If you adopt a shy camel that is going to be in a large open pasture, be sure he/she has a friend like a donkey or polled (hornless) cow and is not alone.  Camels are beyond being a "herd" animal like a gazelle ... they are very intellegent and do best with a companinon

Milking and dairy

Our family farm is dedicated to staying small.  Therefore, we sometimes have female camels who could be part of someone else's dairy.  These females are breeding age or nearly breeding age.

Juveniles

If we have a juvenile camel available for sale at the Dairy, it is most likely a one two three year old male or female that has grown up in our Dairy program working with us alongside their mother and our milking team.  They are just starting out in their long lives and are ready to move into different sorts of settings.

Most importantly, a juvenile camel needs a confident, experienced leader to achieve their best life.  If you want a youngster, you need to get experience working with camels, have a mentor and be devoted to getting a young camel on the right road.

Baby Camels

The Oasis Camel Dairy rarely has a "bottle" baby camel.  We work hard to insure the mother and baby camel bond to each other and then the baby stays in the milking program.  It is our belief that camels raised by camels are better citizens.

On those rare occasions we do have a mother reject a calf, we search for a home where the new person has a lot of camel experience.  Baby camels are not cute little pets and need a person who will help guide them towards being good citizens.

Belina

Age:

Temperament: Cuddler/Over Achiever

Diego is a gelding with lots of training for riding, leading, loading etc.

He wants to be herd boss but our herd has one so he has to stay in another pasture and that is just a waste.  He is smart and willing and very nice with people

Belina

Belina

Age: senior

Temperament: Cuddler

Belina was born right here at the Dairy, has been one of our milkers, had three healthy calves, leads, travels etc.

She likes attention.  She is older and bossy with our herd boss camel, Sampson.  Since that upsets the delicate balance of the herd, she is now in a pasture with a few other camels but really misses one on one attention.  She is older and needs to be kept fit with walking and not over-eating.
